Many of my insured's ask about whether or not to purchase the additional insurance on their rental vehicle. My rule of thumb is if you are traveling to an area that you are not familiar with, such as a major city like Los Angeles, then yes, purchase the additional coverage. Bottom line if you don't then it will be your auto coverage on your personal auto that will kick in to repair the rental vehicle.
